Welcome to Backes Quarter Horses, where the magic is in the mare.
Jane McCurley-Backes started out in AQHA in 1974 showing in the youth classes.
Since then, she has owned, bred or trained Congress and World top ten horses,
superior pleasure horses, AQHYA Champions, R.O.M. performers and N.S.B.A. futurity
winners. Jane has hand picked, with much research, an elite band of quality broodmares,
which is reflected in their progeny. Her philosophy and core of her successful breeding
program is that you cannot have a champion without the proper foundation, which is the
maternal line. She believes that the mare contributes 65% of the foal's attributes.
Her mares are all by top ten stallions and out of mares by top stallions. You will recognize
all the names in these mare's pedigrees as past champions.
Most of the Backes mares have impressive show records of their own, superior pleasure horses,
R.O.M. and futurity champions. All the broodmares' that have offspring old enough for competition can boast they have produced
